01.14.2014 – 30 years in the making! When my birthday rolls around, I definitely don’t look forward to getting another year older, but I most certainly anticipate yummy birthday foods! Here’s what the birthday girl devoured on her BIG 3-0!
My coworker’s birthday was on the 11th and mine on the 14th, so we decided to do a combo birthday lunch at Taormina Sicilian Cuisine. It is a very pristine restaurant with superb service and amazing food! They have a lunch special that includes soup, entree and dessert. Although it is a little pricier for a lunch ($18), if you go based on quality and satisfaction it is definitely worth it… on a special occasion!
On my special day, my hubby gave me a FitBit! I still don’t know how to work it and honestly, I always need to ask for help putting it on, but I know it helps track steps, calories burned and sleep patterns! That just means, monitor the FitBit and walk more, so I can eat more!!! After work, Matty took me to a lovely dinner at Chef Mavro. We both have been wanting to try there for a while but little did we know, it was only a fixed course type of restaurant. They have a 4 course, 6 course and even an 11 course with optional wine pairings! I know I eat a lot and you may be surprised to know I opted for the 4 course (instead of the 11 course haha)! Without a doubt, the wine pairing was added on too ;)
The meal was superb – scallops 3 ways, fish, lamb (I changed out the lamb for the vegetarian option) and dessert! Not to mention the add ons – free bread refills, free sashimi, free dessert before the real dessert and free birthday surprise cake! 4 wine glasses later, I was in heaven! We even got to meet the chef himself, Mr. Mavro! It was a very relaxed and calming atmosphere with amazing service!
I have to admit, the serving sizes were a little small in portion, but with the slight delay between each course, I was very content at the end of my meal. However, the next morning when I woke up, I was starving, which led me to believe that the portions were indeed tiny tim and could have been slightly larger. None the less, it was a great experience and I am so grateful to have tried their award winning food!
On top of this whole lovely dinner, Matt planned a surprise weekend staycation with a surprise birthday lunch at Duke’s Waikiki, followed by more drinks at one of my favorite happy hour places – The Chart House! So many friends showed up and I am so grateful for all their love and support.
My good friend, Annie (aka Annie Cakes), even made me a cake. On my younger drunker days, I would always eat chili with rice and the motherload of Tabasco after a night out – so reminiscing, that was the cake I got!
I celebrated my birthday with my family on the following Sunday. My sister’s husband and I share the same birthday! We visited their new place and got take out from Phuket Thai. The following day, I had dinner with my best foodie friends at Kim Chee Enchanted Lakes. OMG – this restaurant has all you can eat side dishes! I ate two platefuls of the sides that I couldn’t finish my main meal, which actually worked out perfectly because then I had lunch for the next day! If you’re in the area, I would definitely recommend checking out this restaurant.
Lastly, I still have one more dinner planned with my old-time elementary buddy! I grew up with this girl and since I have seniority over her, I demanded she take me to a birthday dinner since she missed the surprise party haha! Her knowing how indecisive I always am, she made me pick where I want to eat. Normally I have a hard time, but this time was a piece of cake! I decided on Lucky Belly! Can’t wait!
Well, it was a whirlwind of a 30th birthday that lasted the course of one week. I enjoyed fantabulous food and made many great memories with my hubby, family and friends. Matt made this 30th birthday one to never forget! I really am a lucky girl and I am forever indebted to my Matty! I have a lot to live up to when I plan his 30th birthday in about 5 months time!
Cheers to a new decade!
