If you recall, sister and I sent our parents on an Alaskan cruise for their 40th anniversary! While they were gone, I was appointed house sitter. I think they were a bit nervous leaving the house in my hands, especially with 2 or 3 storms approaching. Dad took an extra day off right before they left just to secure the house because he knew it would blow away if I was in charge.
Mom left me a checklist of things to do; she was mostly worried about the dog. All in all, two weeks later, I have to say, I think I deserve a B+ for my house sitting efforts!
First and foremost, the house is still standing!!!! WOOHOO!
Secondly, I obeyed Mom’s rule to not have any house parties! Pssshhh I’m too old for that anyways haha! I did sneak a couple of Dad’s beers though, just two!
Third, I only forgot to change out the dogs outside water one day, but honestly I don’t think she drinks out of those bowls anyways! She waits to be let inside for the cleanest water possible.
And most importantly, I went above and beyond when we were faced with obstacles not on the checklist! As I mentioned, we had several storms approaching and just my luck, the ceiling started to leak! Why why why! Of course, it had to happen on my watch.
I called in the troops, well I should say troop, not plural, because I’m only referring to my hubby haha. I made him go up in the attic and find the leak. Then we went to the store, in the storm, to pick up some roofing sealant. After that, up on the roof he went to patch the hole! What a great job he did. He deserves an A+ for his efforts, but I’ll just take the credit since I called in the troop! :)
Mom and Dad returned and it looks like they had a great time! Dad’s first selfie … a bit blurry, but kudos to Dad that he even posed for a photo!
My house sitting duties were officially over. I survived, the house survived, the dog survived – it was a great time! As repayment for my duties, I requested mom to house sit while the Mr. and I went on a weekend adventure to Lanai! Stay tuned for that in our next blog!
Happy 40th again to my awesome parents! Cheers to another 40 more years!

Good job Kathy! Looks like you rescued your parents house by calling in your hubby. That leak was so near the light that you could have had a problem on your hands. My nephew is awesome! I just read your side tweets and realized that I didn’t call my Dad on his birthday. YIKES! I know that he can’t hear me, but I’m a bad daughter for not remembering. My only excuse is that Kekoa and Haunani got neutered and spayed that day.
