Bright and early on the 4th of July, Luna went on her very first hike! Of course, a hike is not complete without another human and fur friend. We met up with Ally and Saru for a 7am hike up Makapuu Lighthouse Trail. If you have never been, I definitely recommend it because it’s an easy paved hike, dog friendly, beautiful views, and the perfect spot to see Humpback Whales during whale season, just remember to bring your binoculars.
The goal of the hike was to tire out the pups so they would not be affected by the fireworks later that night. To make sure our goal was met, we did the hike twice! Maybe a bit overzealous, but it worked! They were pooped! Speaking of poop, I must share that Luna does not know “where” to poop! Walking from the car to the start of the hike, she stopped in the middle of the road and pooped a big one! Needless to say, she made her “mark” on this hike hehe!
In hindsight, perhaps we didn’t need to do the hike twice since the ban on fireworks, made it a pretty mellow night in the residential areas. I remember the days when smoke used to be fill the house and there would be non stop fireworks until at least 1 in the morning! Thank goodness those days are gone because I’m too old and need a peaceful nights rest!
Makapuu Lighthouse Trail was a great first hike and I can’t wait to take Luna on more! If anyone knows of dog friendly hikes in Hawaii, please share! These two rascals are looking for more hikes to go on~

So nice to see Luna and her doggie friends out and about, experiencing the best things about living in Hawaii. I wonder sometimes if dogs know how lucky they are.
