The steps to growing up –
- Rent or buy your own place – check!
- Get married – check!
- Get an animal – check!
- Pass on your good genes to a little one – pending!
The third item on my list was finally checked off! I’ve been trying so hard to adopt a puppy. But every time I checked the Hawaiian Humane Society, they were always gone. Apparently, people line up before they even open and in minutes all the puppies are adopted. Sheesh, don’t people work! Get to work haha! Although, I can’t lie, I did dig out of work for an hour to adopt a puppy. Unfortunately, it was a failed attempt since she was already gone by the time I got there.
Where do you look next, if you can’t adopt?! CRAIGSLIST! Did you know, there’s also dogs for sale on Ebay!?!?! That was a shock to me. Anyways, I browsed Craigslist and saw some lab mixes in Kaneohe for sale! It was posted 7 days ago, so I really thought all chances were out the window. But, we called and they still had 3 left around noon! I knew this was my big chance so I packed up work early and picked up Matt and booked it over to Kaneohe. Now, this was a very stressful car ride as time was against us and they were down to only 2 puppies when we called them again. The store was closing at 5:30 and I was still far away with only 5 minutes to spare! Traffic was bad and I swear I hit nearly every single red light! My blood pressure probably sky rocketed and Matt’s too due to my road rage haha!
5:35 pm we parked the car in front the store and they were closed. My hopes and dreams were crushed.
None-the-less, I got out of the car and went to peek through the window to see if I could see the puppies anyways. I needed to see their smiling faces after all that stress! As I peered through the window, I saw movement inside and by golly, they re-opened the door for us!!! Hallelujah! This was going to be my lucky day! They even gave us a bargain I could not refuse – 2 puppies for $300 (original is $195 for one!). But Matt being the smart and logical one said, “No Kathy, we cannot handle 2. Only 1.” Well, 1 is better than none and so I picked the one I wanted! She lit up my heart and even as I write this, I am smiling cheek to cheek!!!!
It took us a few days to name her, but in the end we would like to welcome, Luna into our growing family! Yes, Luna is one of the characters in Harry Potter and that just shows how much of a Potter fan Matt is! I accepted it though since the name Luna means “moon” and she is my bright and shining moon. No matter how angry I get that there’s poop and pee here, there and everywhere, I just look at her and she calms me down. Don’t get me wrong though, I can’t wait until she is fully potty trained and not biting or randomly barking. I sure hope that time comes sooner rather than later! But, point being is … I love her to the moon and back a billion times over!
She is the sweetest, lazy thing (when she is not biting, peeing or pooping that is) and here’s just a few of my fave pictures! There will be many many more to come, but I promise (to try) not to be one of those crazy moms who create a social profile for their pet kid on Instagram and/or Facebook and dress them up every single occasion! I shall try to contain myself as best as possible!
Welcome, Luna Matsukawa!

Luna is the cutest little girl with those big, brown eyes. I especially like the pictures of her rolling on her back…I love it when dogs do that. Does she make weird grunting noises when she does that? I know that you want the poopy potty training to be done, but it’s so much fun when they’re little and just a ball of fur. Matt sure looks comfortable with her…he’ll be a great doggy Daddy. Congratulations! Welcome to the family Luna, we can’t wait to meet you.
